New Delhi [India]May Day (ANI): The May Day occasion remained momentous for young archers across India as they gave their best at the Khelo India Zonal Archery Tournament on Sunday .
The tournament, organized by the Archery Association of India (AAI), saw the participation of 600 archers across five zones. The venues were the Sports Authority of India’s National Centers of Excellence (NCOE) in Sonepat, Imphal, Kolkata, Guwahati and Aurangabad.
Recurve and compound archers (men and women) competed in the senior, junior and sub-junior categories at the NCOE SAI. AAI, in conjunction with SAI, offered the tournaments with the aim of enhancing national competitions and ensuring mass participation from a broad base and allowing interested athletes from neighboring zonal states to come and compete. It was also decided to host Khelo India’s monthly archery competitions on the first Sunday of every month.
Union Sports Minister for Youth and Sports Anurag Thakur had mentioned the importance of organizing such competitions when launching the Khelo India Women’s Hockey League (Under 21) in New Delhi l ‘last year.
He said: “Competitions and exhibitions like these are important for any athlete and if we continue to organize them, athletes will not only have the chance to play several times a year, but will also be prepared for other tournaments. important to come. their. Eminent dignitaries including Padma Shri and Laureate Arjuna Bombayla Devi Laishram and Laureate Arjuna Mangal Singh Champia graced the tournament with their presence as guest of honour, at the SAI Kolkata center on Sunday. With the AAI mission “Har Ghar Archery Har Gaon Archery” in mind, the main objective of the tournament is to improve national competition, mass participation and provide an opportunity for archers.
The Khelo India Archery Tournaments (Senior, Junior and Sub Junior) are also held in coordination with the respective state associations who provide all the technical assistance to organize the tournaments. (ANI)
