Egypt and Jordan face off in the quarter-finals of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup on Friday for a place in the last four.

The Pharaohs won Group D ahead of defending CAN champions Algeria through the fair play points system, with the teams finishing level on points (7) and goal difference (+6) after three matches.

After back-to-back wins in their first two games, Carlos Queiroz’s side held the Desert Warriors 1-1, thanks to a second-half penalty from Amr El Solia.

Jordan, on the other hand, managed to reach this level after negotiating a group of big names like Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

A 4-0 loss to Morocco on matchday two put their hopes of progress in jeopardy, but the Chivalrous responded with a 5-1 demolition of Palestine on the final day.

Egypt vs Jordan head to head

There have only been four clashes between the teams before, with Egypt winning twice.

However, those wins came in the 1970s and 80s. When they last met in January 2016, Jordan took a 1-0 friendly win.

Algeria and Egypt ended in a 1-1 draw, but a late red card for Algerian Yacine Titraoui means Egypt are top of Group D on disciplinary points! Egypt will face Jordan and Algeria will face Morocco in the quarter-finals! #ArabCup #FIFArabCup Watch now – onbe.in/3hTp092 https://t.co/zhMiaoqJLK

Looking like a serious injury for the best Jordanian player in the Arab Cup. Al-Shamal representative Baha Faisal is out after 13 minutes with a sprained knee (?) https://t.co/PIlemmqaY3

Ehsan Haddad received a red card in the opening game against Saudi Arabia, causing him to miss the entire group stage.

But he must return on Friday.

Ahead of their second group game against Morocco, Jordan lost both Mohammed Al-Demeiri and Ahmed Thaer to injuries and the two are also expected to sit out for this clash.

Captain Bahaa Faisal tore his anterior cruciate ligament just 13 minutes into their clash with Morocco and was also sent off.

Yazan Al-Naimat returned to action after an injury in the last game, scoring twice off the bench against Palestine. He might have a chance to lead the line tomorrow.
