December 4 – The first phase of the Kodak Archery Range expansion in Windsor will require temporary shutdowns of the range and parking lot until December 22.

The first phase will add 20 parking spaces, as well as an accessible parking lot, to the 14 existing spaces of the range in the lot, located at the corner of Poudre Trail Drive and Colo. 257, according to a city press release. The closings depend on the weather.

The second phase will add seven targets to the current seven targets, as well as two raised platforms, a shelter and a three-dimensional target course on the east side of the range. Fences will also be added along the Poudre River trail. Dates are pending for phase 2.

“We are delighted to begin a long-awaited project that will expand our archery range and improve the outdoor experience for our residents,” Deputy Director of Public Works Paul Schwindler said in the statement. “As our community evolves, we aim to meet and meet the needs of our residents. This project will address those needs, expectations and enhance the experience of outdoor archers for all ages, levels and abilities. . “

The beach is open all year round and free to the public. The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department offers courses for young people during the summer.

The Colorado Rifle Range Development Grant, managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, provided funding to the rifle range in February 2020. The grant covered $ 100,000 of the $ 130,000 cost of the project, which is split in two phases.

“This project will allow us to add more lessons and recreational opportunities to the sport, potentially offer league nights, tournaments and enhance the experience for archery fans,” said CPW grant co-author and recreation coordinator Logan Anderson. “Last summer we added an archery course to meet demand on our waiting list. This project has been in the works for a year and we are excited to innovate and begin the process. “

Any construction delayed by the weather will resume if the weather permits. For more information on the range, visit www.recreationliveshere.com.
